It was a day of ups and downs at Yarmouth today as fast improver AYLESFORD broke his maiden on just his second start and just half an hour later BEAT THE STORM loses his race in the stewards room.
Settled in rear by jockey Shane Kelly, Aylesford made smooth headway at half way and battled on well to come up a short head in front at the line from the hot favourite. It was a really likable performance from a horse who hasn't been asked too many questions at home and he will have learnt a great deal from his win today.
We almost had a quick fire double as Beat The Storm carried on his improvement this season with a short head victory under Daniel Muscutt. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be as the horse got a little lonely out in front and with a visor on he wandered around in the finish. The stewards took a dim view of this and decided the runner- up would have got past had he not come off a true line. Although it is disappointing we are glad the horses are running well and hopefully Beat The Storm can gain compensation next time out.
