DESERT GULF gained his first win of the season at Yarmouth on Tuesday and broke the 6f track record at Yarmouth in the process. He has been highly tried this season so a drop in grade really suited him as he made easy work of a small runner field. Settled in rear early, jockey Callum Shepherd loomed up on the outside of runners to deliver a cosy success which never looked in doubt.
He is still a fairly unexposed horse who, given the right conditions, can be very useful. He has plenty of options for the remainder of the season, either staying in a lower grade at the lesser meetings or trying his luck in better races. Given the hot weather we are experiencing he will hopefully be out again soon while his conditions are just right.
