2021 saw the William Knight team achieve their most successful year to date in terms of prize money, and joint best in terms of winners. William ended the year with a win from Share The Profits on 29th December, bringing the tally for the year to 34. From 253 runners this yielded a healthy 13% strike rate. The horses have remained in fine form throughout the year, bringing home 20 2ndplaces and 30 3rd places, accumulating £361,340 total prize money.

Sir Busker remains the highest rated horse in the yard and, although he did not manage to get his head in front in 2021, he still brought home £77,577 in prize money and faced some stiff opposition in Group company.

King Of The South won 3 races and over £30,000 in prize money, ending the year on a mark of 101. He stays with us as a 5yo and has already won his first race of the new year. He is clearly still improving and remains an exciting prospect for the season ahead.

Percy’s Pride won 3 races over 1m2f and 1m4f earning over £26,000 in prize money. She stays at Rathmoy Stables as a 4yo and should be a useful middle distance filly who is capable of picking up some black type.

Desert Gulf also won 3 races, ending the year on a mark of 89 but was sold to continue his career in Bahrain.

Spanish Kiss was another who picked up 3 wins, ending the year on a mark of 93 with a solid effort to finish 7th in the Cesarewitch at Newmarket in October. He has also moved on and will continue his career in Australia.

French Minstrel picked up a hat trick of wins during the spring, whilst Author’s Dream, Sundayinmay and Aylesford all won twice throughout the year. There were 12 further individual winners, meaning that 21 horses won at least one race during the year.

The team is now busy getting the new batch of yearlings going and welcoming back the older horses who are returning from their winter breaks. William was delighted with the results from 2021, his first full season training in Newmarket, and is excited to build on this success in 2022.
