Gavlar back to form at Kempton
on 22 August 2018

Gavlar notched up his sixth career win when landing the 2m 0-85 handicap at Kempton this evening.

Raceday preparations did not go entirely smoothly with Andrea Atzeni, who was booked to ride, getting stuck in traffic and not making it to the track in time to partner the 7yo gelding. Charlie Bishop stepped in to take the ride, having already ridden the winner of the first and did a fine job guiding Gavlar home.

The pace was steady enough with Gavlar taking a good grip in behind the leaders, but he obviously had plenty left in the tank to throw down his challenge 2f out, beating Marco Botti's Velvet Revolution by half a length.

Although he has been placed in half of his runs this year, Gavlar has not been in the winner's enclosure since March of last year. Back to a workable mark he was able to get the better of his rivals today, showing that he still retains some ability. This was a deserved win for the horse and his owners Canisbay Bloodstock.
